After 35 years operating trucks with manual gearboxes, F D Greenly & Sons has taken the plunge and purchased their first automatic vehicle – a DAF CF 85 Tipper – from Ford & Slater, Lincoln.
Company Director, Nick Greenly, has had a relationship with Ford & Slater since the 1980s, so with the decision made to purchase a new DAF automatic truck, Nick contacted Ford & Slater and began working with our sales team to specify the right truck for their fleet.
Nick Greenly explained, “This was the first time that we had purchased an automatic vehicle in 35 years, and the reason is simple - these days trucks are so high tech they almost drive themselves. With an ageing fleet and a modern workforce, we wanted to give some of our drivers a chance with the automatic so we could see what all the fuss was about!”
Chosen for its superior engine and AS Tronic gearbox, the brand-new CF tipper joins a fleet of four DAF trucks, two of which were purchased from Ford & Slater, which are all being used for tipper haulage throughout the east of England.
Nick Greenly concluded, “When we decided to try something different Ford & Slater were our first choice. The trucks are great and the drivers love them – that’s all that matters to us!”
